Cub Scouts’ Athletics Challenge

This week we have an activity that fulfils the requirements for Athletics activity badge (with some adaptations to suit the virtual and home-based context).

Preparation:

  • Familiarise yourself with the powerpoint presentation (provided).All the activities are self explanatory.
  • Find a willing Young Leader (or adult volunteer) to demonstrate, lead (and discuss) –

(1) Appropriate warm up and cool down sequences.

(2) Correct burpees

(3) Indoor Long Jump

(4) Sit Ups

 

  • Let Cubs know in advance that they will need paper, pen / pencil, bucket / box / bowl, a tape measure, soft balls or bean bags, a large spoon and alternative for an ‘egg’.

 

 

How to participate (using a video meeting tool like Zoom):

Share your screen to show the powerpoint presentation and explain the challenges.  Pause to allow ‘live’ demonstrations of the various activities.

Time to Complete:         60 minutes.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
