The School ‘Easter Holidays’ 2020

The school holidays are going to be very different this year and will probably not feel very joyful or festive for most people.

If you are planning to have a (very well earned) break from your online / virtual / video Scouting over the coming fortnight, we have some ideas for activities that you could send to members (copied to a parent / an appropriate adult) to keep them interested, busy and engaged at home.

For Explorer Scouts, we are suggesting that:

  • They could start to make a ‘Time Capsule’ or diary documenting their Covid-19 lockdown experiences. We have supplied a framework, which might give them some initial ideas, but they may want to use technology, maybe a Blog or Vlog instead? This would be great as part of their Digital Citizen Staged Activity badge
  • Explorer Scout Young Leaders may also want to sign up for an on-line Makaton taster session which will be held on 21st April at 6.30pm. This is open to any South West ESYLs who would like to know about the Makaton language programme, how it can help some of our youth members with additional needs and to learn some useful Makaton signs for games, songs and our promise.

We would love to hear about how you are getting on with all the ideas from South West Scout Home 2020.  Please do send us your feedback (and any new ideas you’d like to share) to scoutingathome@somersetscouts.org.uk

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
