As the group was selected from across Somerset, we came together regularly for pre-trip meetups that were not only essential for training but also a blast for everyone involved. These gatherings helped us bond as a team, so by the time we were ready to depart for Italy, leaders and young people had formed solid friendships, and we were well-prepared for a thrilling week of skiing.
Our adventure kicked off with a dry ski slope training days at the Mendip Activity Centre. The group got hands-on experience with putting on ski gear and mastering the basics of the slopes. When we weren’t on the slopes, we had even more fun—playing frisbee golf, taking part in water activities, and diving into essential ski training sessions, making every moment action-packed.
We also spent an entire weekend at Bishops Lydeard, where the excitement continued with a variety of team-building activities. We fired up pizza ovens and made over 60 pizzas, fueling our energy for an epic weekend. Plus, we ventured into Bristol for a Monopoly Run-style event that had everyone racing around the city, testing their teamwork and problem-solving skills. We even had a final meetup to double-check everything before heading off on our unforgettable Italian adventure.
These meetups were filled with laughter, new skills, and plenty of excitement, ensuring that when we hit the slopes in Italy, we were not just prepared—we were a team ready for the adventure of a lifetime! The feedback from the Young People was the pre camp meet ups were as amazing as the trip itself and helped them make new friends and learn skills for life.
We set off from Somerset in style aboard our luxury coach, courtesy of Keepings Coaches, with excitement buzzing as we embarked on our journey to the stunning Italian slopes. After a long but worthwhile 20-hour journey, we arrived in the picturesque village of Madesimo. The group settled into our cozy hotel, which was ideally located directly opposite the slopes and just steps away from the ski gear rental shop, allowing us to kit up on the very first evening. After a hearty evening meal, everyone was more than ready for an early night, resting up for the action-packed week of skiing ahead.
The next morning, the adventure began as the group met their expert ski instructors, who would be guiding them on the slopes throughout the week. These instructors played a key role in ensuring not only our safety but also challenging everyone to improve their skills each day.
From beginners starting on the nursery slopes to the more experienced tackling the blue, red, and even daring black runs, the instructors were there every step of the way, making sure everyone had the time of their lives while mastering their technique.
Midday, we regrouped at the hotel for extended lunches, which were typically a lavish three-course affair. These breaks weren’t just about refueling—they were perfect for swapping stories about the morning’s adventures, sharing triumphs and challenges, and, of course, resting our legs before hitting the slopes again for the afternoon session.
When the slopes closed for the evening, the fun didn’t stop there. The group had plenty of time to explore the charming village of Madesimo, picking up souvenirs or enjoying a dip in the hotel’s pool. Our evenings were packed with entertainment too—everything from karaoke, pizza night, ice skating, snowshoeing and a lively quiz night. Each evening brought laughter, new experiences, and more opportunities to bond as a group, making this trip unforgettable both on and off the slopes.
As the week came to a close, nobody was ready to leave! The memories made, the friendships forged, and the skills gained were priceless. The feedback from leaders, young people, and parents has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’re thrilled to announce that we will be returning for another adventure in 2026!
