World Scout Jamboree Selection Day

Introduction

A World Scout Jamboree is a world Scouting event for young people aged between 14 and 18 and is a gathering of Scouts and Guides from all over the world for an exciting programme of global development, peace, cultural understanding, adventure, fun and friendship.

The 24th World Scout Jamboree will take place at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia and the dates of the event are 22 July – 2 August 2019. The event is being hosted by the Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada and Scouts of Mexico. This is the largest event delivered by Scouting worldwide and 45,000 young people and adult volunteers are expected to attend from over 150 countries.

Somerset are running a Unit jointly with Wiltshire Scouts. The Unit will consist of 3 Patrols of 9 members from Somerset and 1 Patrol of 9 members from Wiltshire. To be eligible to apply to be a participant in the Somerset WSJ Contingent you must be born between 22nd July 2001 and 21st July 2005.

Selection Day

If you would like to apply for a place in the World Scout Jamboree unit there will be selection weekends taking place in March. There will be two phases to the selection process, phase 1 will be a one day event at Huish Woods Campsite on either Saturday 10th or Sunday 11th March. If successful from phase 1 candidates will be invited to phase 2 for a selection weekend at Tedbury Campsite.
