Somerset Beaver Scout Toby Scammell had tea and a chat with Chief Scout, Bear Grylls, in Windsor on 22nd April 2018.

Toby and his family were invited to attend the annual St George’s Day parade and celebration at Windsor Castle, in recognition of Toby’s achievements.  18 months ago, Toby helped to save his Mum’s life – thanks to his calm implementation of the skills he had learnt at Beavers.

Toby was equipped  with the knowledge & skills to deal with this life threatening situation effectively, thanks to his completion of the Emergency Aid badge at 2nd Templecombe Beavers in the preceding weeks. Toby was congratulated by Bear, who has awarded him the Chief Scout’s Commendation for Meritorious Conduct. Toby is entitled to wear this medal on his Scout uniform for the rest of his life.

Somerset Scouting prepares young people like Toby with skills for life, supported by amazing leaders delivering an inspiring programme.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
