County Celebration Event Recognises Volunteers

Date: 10th Apr 2018 Author: Scout Websites

130 members of Somerset County Scouting, and their guests, gathered at Edgar Hall in Somerton on April 8th 2018 to recognise the incredible contribution of our wonderful volunteers.  In Somerset we are grateful to have 1802 adults, who willingly support our 4035 youth members to participate in Scouting. In the January 2018 census, we were pleased to see growth across the county for the second consecutive year. Growth is not merely about numbers, it is the result of our leaders providing excellent quality programme in our groups and districts, which encourages retention and recruitment – and it is about managers and trustees enabling and supporting the creation of more spaces in enough sections so that every child, who wants to join us, can take part in the adventure.

the volunteers in our movement share a passion and a belief in Scouting and the life skills that it offers to young people.

The Celebration Event gave us an opportunity to celebrate those whose passion for Scouting has led to particular dedication and commitment – and thus they have been recognised this year for special appreciation.

The County Commissioner and District Commissioners presented 39 adult awards, which included 2 Bars to the Award of Merit and 5 Silver Acorns.

Many congratulation to all of our award recipients who attended, and to those whose certificates will be presented in the coming weeks. Thank you for your contribution to Scouting in Somerset.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
