Bronze Cross presented to John Volanthen
County Commissioner Elizabeth Henderson presents John Volanthen the Bronze Cross, Scouts’ highest honour, which is awarded for “heroism or action in the face of extraordinary risk”
John, Somerset Scouts County Caving Assessor was part of the team who helped rescue 12 Thai boys and their football coach from a cave complex in June. John was one of the first voices the boys heard and was involved with the rescue efforts.
John was presented with the Bronze Cross Medal by Somerset County Commissioner Elizabeth Henderson and Avon County Commissioner Graham Brant in recognition to his bravery.
The Bronze Cross Medal is the highest award for gallantry that the Scouts can bestow on adult and child members of the movement.
