European Scout Jamboree 2020, Poland

After a gap of nearly 15 years, since the UK hosted the last European Jamboree in 2005, the next European Scout Jamboree will take place in Poland in July/August 2020. Building on the fantastic programme developed as part of their World Scout Jamboree bids the Scouts and Guides of Poland invite you to join them for 11 days of activities, combining the chance to develop new skills, make new friends from across Europe (12 – 15,000 people are expected to attend) and experience Poland’s beautiful countryside.  Based on its own island close to the city of Gdansk, the purpose built site is within walking distance of beautiful sandy beaches, pine forests and a short bus ride from the bustling city.

Event dates:

Participants/Leaders: *26 July 2020 to 7 August 2020

IST: 25 July 2020 to 8 August 2020

*These dates include travel from the UK and arrival at/departure from the campsite. However, if flights significantly change or there is a lack of availability of seats, it may be necessary to add additional day/s which have currently not been budgeted for.

*We anticipate that the Unit may opt to add on a little extra time before and/or after the Jamboree, so the whole experience could be longer than these dates.  IST may choose to do this too!

Age requirements:

Participants must be born between 26 July 2002 and 31 December 2006

Leaders must be at least 18 years old on application

IST must be at least 18 years old on the first day of the Jamboree

More information can be found on the European Jamboree website at, although currently this is mainly aimed at national contingent organisers.

Somerset and IST at the European Jamboree

Each Unit is made up of 4 patrols, consisting of 9 participants and 1 leader. Somerset has half a unit (2 patrols) and is currently assigned to combine with Bedfordshire, who will also have half a unit (2 patrols). Thus, Somerset has an allocation for the following places at the European Jamboree:

  • 1/2 Unit consisting of 18 participants and 2 leaders
  • 2-3 International Service Team places (though more may be possible depending on the National availability and need for UK IST members.)

The initial application process for 18 participant and 2 leader places will be the same as that of a World Scout Jamboree, and depending on the number of applications received, we may need to hold a selection process. In case of that need, please keep the date of Saturday 19th January 2019 clear in your diary. Leaders & IST please also keep the evening of Friday 18th January 2019 free.
